Heliophila pusilla

About this weed

Heliophila pusilla is one of those small slender weeds that grow in sandy soils often in coastal areas and Banskia woodlands. Unlike many weeds that are readily seen in bushland this weed tends to remain unobtrusive unless one goes looking for it in spring. Probably introduced with other flowering plants from South Africa where it is a native.

Description

Heliophila pusilla ia a slender erect annual growing to 0.5 m high. It produces small white flowers in spring. The seed pods are up to 2cm long and flattened and constricted around the seeds.

Usually found in coastal sandy soils, mostly over limestone in the South-West Province. It is also common in Banskia woodlands.
